A taxpayer may claim dependent relative credit for maintaining a relative or spouse at their own expense. This relative may be incapacitated by old age or infirmity or a widowed parent. This relative is not required to be living in Ireland to qualify.

This tax credit for 2021 has now increased from €70 to €245.

In order to qualify for this credit, the relative’s income must not exceed €15,740 for 2021. To claim this credit, you will need to submit a return for 2021.
